Material Selection & Formulation
Material selection and formulation is the most important aspect about high quality luxury vinyl floorings. What goes in comes out, therefore material selection is essential for quality and performance when it comes to manufacturing. As a flooring factory, you cannot produce and make quality flooring planks without quality materials.
Generic materials to make quality luxury vinyl floorings includes:
- Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) Polymer
- Calcium Carbonate Stone Mineral Powder
- Stabilizers & Additives
Material Feeding & Mixing
PVC polymer, mineral powders and additives needs to be mixed well before it can be effectively extruded. There are a few technical controls that are needed to make sure material fixing are done well and with consistency. These includes formulating ratio, moisture level controlling, and mixing time. Once the raw materials are mixed, the feeder system will automatically transfer and start feeding the mixed composition into the extrusion machine.
Extrusion Process
The extrusion process is associated with heating, melting and mixing the raw materials in the twin extruder machine. With precision temperature controlling, the materials are thermo plasticized before it is extruded through the die. After the die, the composition needs to go through the calendering to be form into sheets. It is then cooled down and cutted into a 1 metre by 1.2, 1.5, or 1.8 metre size.
Stabilizing and Aging
Stabilizing and aging the semi-finished vinyl planks is essential for the flooring to be dimensional stable. Facilities such as thermostatic conditioning rooms are essential to ensure top quality vinyl flooring products are produced. After the extrusion process, our vinyl planks will be seasoned and aged for 48 hours, and depending on the grade of specification, we will reduce the stacking height to improve heat dispersion consistency rates.
UV Coating
A layer of UV coating is applied onto the surface of vinyl planks and it goes through a UV curing process. The purpose of applying an UV coating is originally to prevent color fading from sun light exposure. Later material technology in UV coating solutions also adds functions such as anti-bacteria, scratch resistance improvements, and ultra matt surface. Here with Hengdi Floor, our best UV coating technology allows for 38N scratch resistance performance. Ordinary UV coating can only handle 8N up to 12N scratch resistance performance.
Cutting, Slotting and Grooving
After UV coating process, the planks are again aged for another 24 hour before cutting and slotting. The slotting line firstly cut the full plank into 4 or 5 piece planks (for wood style planks) then goes into slotting machine to make the profiling clicks on both long side and short side of the flooring.
Advanced slotting machine can also realise designs such as press bevels and irregular bevels.
Underlayer Attachment
For rigid core SPC floorings, an underlayer of EVA, IXPE, or Cork is attached underneath. Depending on the dimensional specification requirement, different thickness of underlayment is adhesed onto the SPC plank. There are three common thickness for the underlayment, ranging from 1mm to 2mm:

Once the SPC flooring planks are fully manufactured, they are ready for packaging and shipping.
Delivery
Pallets of rigid core SPC floorings are loaded according to customers’ loading plan and shipping schedule booked according to required shipping cycle.
